Half Alive 03:52
Half Alive (Ned Hill) Standing here staring down a railroad track-baby I’m half alive A long time gone and a long way back-keep waiting but I don’t know why And I know I’ve been lying to myself And I know that her world won’t change for anyone else Love done caged me in a barb wire fence-baby I’m half alive A worn out spot where the time we spent-old memories of the days gone bye And I know I’ve been lying to myself And I know that her world won’t change for anyone else Baby, you’re always on my mind There’s an old coffee stain in her favorite cup-baby I’m half alive But there’s just some damn things you can’t clean up-keep waiting for the hands of time And I know I’ve been lying to myself And I know that her world won’t change for anyone else And I know I’ve been lying to myself And I know that her world won’t change for anyone else Baby, you’re always on my mind

Where Ya Gone Virginia? (Ned Hill) No golden band-no flowered altar No boring pictures of the family Just the ties that bind-all the years in between Held your hand through the deepest water Never let you drown in the misery And if you had to fall-you had to fall on me Where ya gone Virginia?-you know you made a fool out of me Where ya gone Virginia?-better get on back to Tennessee Took a chance across the river Living with some ghosts that you never see But they linger there-yeah, they linger in your dreams Where ya gone Virginia?-you know you made a fool out of me Where ya gone Virginia?-better get on back to Tennessee Makes you wonder now-makes you wonder how-makes you wonder now Took a trip to nowhere Texas Came back home to a different view Empty spaces there-an empty place without you Where ya gone Virginia?-you know you made a fool out of me Where ya gone Virginia?-better get on back to Tennessee

Detroit City (You’re One Tough Town) (Ned Hill, Don Duprie, Alison Lewis) Ah, Detroit City-you’re one tough town We put you on wheels-made our own sound Now the cars are all rusted-the streets are broke down Those rumbling engines kinda quieted down Ah, Detroit City-you’re one tough town And baby I know-this world can turn cold and kick ya around sometime Beat ya so bad, you’re hard to recognize In my Cadillac “Rose’-I left my oil stained clothes and this heart of mine With the note you left when you said goodbye Ah, Detroit City-you’re one tough town We put you on wheels-made our own sound Now the cars are all rusted-the streets are broke down Those rumbling engines kinda quieted down Ah, Detroit City-you’re one tough town Half drunk and stoned-before I go, Joe, hit me one more time So I can lay my head down with peaceful eyes And as I stumble on home-seems like everything’s gone But I know this city will rise-from these burned out ashes And so will I Ah, Detroit City-you’re one tough town We put you on wheels-made our own sound Now the cars are all rusted-the streets are broke down Those rumbling engines kinda quieted down Ah, Detroit City-you’re one tough town

That’s My Story (Ned Hill) Raised on the streets of Horse Cave Kentucky-not much there but we sure felt lucky Five and dime and juke box junkies we were Basketball on the TV screen-Adolph Rupp and Martin Luther King-interrupting Walt Disney and shakin’ up the old world The segregation line was the railroad track-one side white and one side black But we all went to school and played like super heroes Those high school years were full of rock, adolescent blues, and one last shot And I broke their hearts when the clock ran down to zero And oh Lord, that’s my story-stuck between faith and the pain and glory Sent me off to the finest school-fell apart quick like a drunken fool-so I traded in my books for a really cool record collection White knuckle liberal arts anxiety-so I scored a little dope from some SAE’s-but wound up on the floor praying for a resurrection And oh Lord, that’s my story-stuck between faith and the pain and glory Like digging hard dirt with a baby spoon-I dug, dug, dug till I made it through With a BA degree and a masters in well intentions Came back home to settle down but she took off and I fell down when I heard the train and the sound of its rumbling engine And here I am with this old guitar-a long time gone but not too far From the love and the soul and the heart that I was raised from And I can still see my Daddy’s cigarette-the way he held it with that whiskey on his breath-listening to Ray Charles singing on the stereo “That Lucky Ol’ Sun” And oh Lord, that’s my story-stuck between faith and the pain and glory And oh Lord, that’s my story-stuck between faith and the pain and glory
5.
When You’re Gone (Ned Hill) I watch you leaving-softly breathing I can see it in your eyes Broke down and hollow-if I could follow you there I’d do it every time And who’ll be there to find me And who’ll be there beside me When you’re gone A month of Sundays-the things that we say Will make me fall apart A change in the weather-her eyes fall like the leaves of September down When the rain and thunder start And who’ll be there to make me And who’ll be there to save me When you’re gone And I suppose the sun will rise again and bring another day But I don’t know if I can take this world without your pretty face-alone And who’ll be there above me And who’ll be there to bug me And who’ll be there to love me When you’re gone
6.
You Got It 03:08
You Got It (Ned Hill) You ain’t the prettiest girl I know Crooked tooth smile but as pure as gold Who settles in a river of worn out poems Bell bottom jeans and a black tank top With white tattered letters that says “Cheap Trick Rocks” Eating chocolate cherries from a heart shaped box You got it-baby, baby you got it You say, let me tell ya rockin’ daddy where’s it’s at Bill Hicks, Pat Conroy, and Ronnie Van Zant You say you’re a Mason Dixon momma and I have to laugh You got it-baby, baby you got it And I know darlin’-all the years have fallen Away from what I wished that it would be And like that old cold wind callin’-you put that old flame out darlin’ But the fire still lies there underneath You take one last drink from your six year old scotch Red lipstick on your glass-you wind your daddy’s old watch You say your forty minutes for I don’t know what You got it-baby, baby you got it Don’t you know that you got it
7.
Kick The Stars (Ned Hill) Lonely days-a million miles from anything This world moves so fast the wind it brings Will knock you to the ground And that whisper on your shoulder-a little louder as you get older Says start looking up instead of lying down Cause those wheels keep churning down the railroad track Picking up steam about a half mile back With its whistle moaning out that lonesome sound Oh train roll on-tearin’ up these rails I’m on Heading north to Kingdom Come-but it will be alright I’ll kick the stars and kiss the moon goodnight And I’m laughing at the notion of drifting on an ocean Of a thousand songs and no one hears my plea Threw myself to the universe-spit me right back but it could be worse I can still rise up when I’m on my bended knee Oh train roll on-tearin’ up these rails I’m on Heading north to Kingdom Come-but it will be alright I’ll kick the stars and kiss the moon goodnight Oh lonely days-sing the words that’s hard to say Like an old folk singer troubadour castaway-in a city full of stone And I’m standing on a feeling’-these three chords I’m stealing From an old poet that I heard so long ago If I beat my guitar on a crowded street Like the punk rock drunkard that I use to be Will the fire spark to Heaven with my soul? Oh train roll on-tearin’ up these rails I’m on Heading north to Kingdom Come-but it will be alright I’ll kick the stars and kiss the moon goodnight

Revival 03:29
Revival (Johnny Mark Miller) Adam in the garden of Eden-with a good woman by his side She said, we can have anything we want-God put it her for us to try That serpent there says it’s ok-say Yahweh, he won’t mind One little bite of forbidden fruit and they left paradise behind The good Lord said to Noah-son, I’m gonna make it rain Forty days and forty nights-like nothin’ you ain’t ever seen Gonna need you to round your family boy and build yourself a boat With two of every animal-to keep the whole wide world afloat Revival, revival No church and pews-grab your Sunday shoes and your Bible Revival, revival Cause this old tent was Heaven sent for survival Moses came down from the mountain-with a big stone in his hand He said the word was written on Ararat-by the finger of God to man He said the people ain’t been living’ right-they’ve been prayin’ to a golden cow But you the man’s a gonna set’em straight-and I’m a gonna show you how Revival, revival No church and pews-grab your Sunday shoes and your Bible Revival, revival Cause this old tent was Heaven sent for survival Daniel in the lion’s den-as scared as he can be He say a prayer to the Man upstairs—this cat’s gonna make a meal out of me Gonna need you to send somebody Lord-to tame this savage beast Cause I’ll be damn if I’m gonna become some feline’s feast Revival, revival No church and pews-grab your Sunday shoes and your Bible Revival, revival Cause this old tent was Heaven sent for survival Revival, revival No church and pews-grab your Sunday shoes and your Bible Revival, revival Cause this old tent was Heaven sent for survival

The Streets Of My Hometown (Ned Hill, Billy Hill) Daddy was a doctor-drove a big ol’ car around Momma was a nurse-they had an office there in town The DX station checkerboard always drew a crowd As the whispers from the pool hall walls say rack’em Mr. Brown Now this town is just a place where no one comes The lonely sidewalks stranded there when Sam Walton banged his drum The vacant buildings are holding out-begging for someone But old memories are the only thing that’s hangin’ ‘round And there ain’t nothin’ left on the streets of my hometown The department stores were castles where a kid could roam for days Ben Franklins had its models and its 1000 paint display And on the bikes from Western Auto-we could ride around all day The hardware store with its creaky floor-had the Fort Knox of knife displays Now this town is just a place where no one comes The lonely sidewalks stranded there when Sam Walton banged his drum The vacant buildings are holding out-begging for someone But old memories are the only thing that’s hangin’ ‘round And there ain’t nothin’ left on the streets of my hometown There was a soda straw through a hole in the old jail wall-where the friendly jailbirds use to feed On cigarettes and soda pop from Talley’s grocery And on a dare we’d wander there-for some convict company And trade a smoke for a dirty joke-and some school boy foolery Now this town is just a place where no one comes The lonely sidewalks stranded there when Sam Walton banged his drum The vacant buildings are holding out-begging for someone But old memories are the only thing that’s hangin’ ‘round And there ain’t nothin’ left on the streets of my hometown

Marry A Waitress (Ned Hill) Think I’ll marry a waitress-with pulled back hair of brown And a smile she keeps every time she comes around Think I’ll marry a waitress-from a hard and simple life Who’ll help me clean up this mess ’ve made of mine And as I go where anything goes-baby, I’ve come undone One more place, another late show-I’m tired of holding on Think I’ll tell her tomorrow-before it gets too late And there’s nothing on my plate-to keep me here Say goodbye to the sorrow-and miles of lonely streets With every glass of tea-she’ll say baby, baby Is everything alright? And as I go where anything goes-baby, I’ve come undone One more place, another late show-I’m tired of holding on Think I’ll marry a waitress-a southern football queen Picks up her tips and keeps the counter clean Pulls the check from her pink dress-say “sorry” as she leans To fill up my glass of tea-she’ll say baby, baby Is everything alright?
11.
Thinkin’ About You (Ned Hill, Dave Coleman, Jeffrey Perkins, Johnny Mark Miller) I’m thinkin’ about you all the time I’m thinking’ about it-you’re on my mind I’m wandering ‘round this ol’ parade Till I finally find you baby And I’m thinking’ below my shoulder-till it drives me insane And I’m thinking’ about you all the time And I’m wondering about myself again And I’m wondering if it’s gonna rain Here we go, here we go, here we go again Sittin’ on my hands baby And I’m feeling around your door-till it puts me away And I’m thinking’ about you today Porque no mas amor porque When I bring you up-you bring me down When I try to put you up-you pull me around I’m thinkin’ about you all the time (I’m wonderin’ about myself again) I’m thinking’ about it-you’re on my mind (I’m wonderin’ if it’s ever gonna end) I’m wandering ‘round this ol’ parade Till I finally find you baby And I’m thinking’ below my shoulder-till it drives me insane And I’m thinking’ about you all the time And I’m thinking’ about you all the time Do re mi fa say it one more time I’m thinking’ about you all the time

Automobile 03:39
Automobile (Ned Hill) I’ve been out of my head-on my head Thinking up someone else-something else And life goes on-and life goes on-and time rolls on Where is God-where is love-and where is my automobile Where is faith-where is hope-I can’t seem to find them this year Hey yeah-I’m sitting in a parking lot-and I get high Way up-and way down-yeah way down I grip it-it slips out-what’s in my hands-it’s in His hands And life goes on-and life goes on-and time rolls on Where is God-where is love-and where is my beautiful girl Where is faith-where is hope-I can’t seem to find them this year And I thought I saw him lying in a field And I thought I saw her lying in a field Man I thought I saw them lying in a field Yes I did-yes I did Come on Come on Come on Come on
